We realize R&D is not obtainable for every company. We offer ourselves as a lab for hire to be considered a remote part of your staff to offer support, solutions, and products for you and your company.
How much does reverse engineering cost?
The cost of reverse engineering services can vary depending on the formula’s complexity and the necessary tests needed to analyze the submitted sample. For this reason, reverse engineering is charged within the range of $750 – $1250 per sample.
What do I get out of reverse engineering?
After reverse engineering is complete, you are given a list of chemicals present in the product with their general percentages. This is not a finished, stable product and usually needs to be followed by more precise formulation.
How much does formulation work cost?
Formulation work is characterized as “lab hours” and is charged at $140/hour. We track lab hours in increments of 15 minutes. If a full 15 minutes is not completed, we round the time down.
How long does it take to reverse engineer a product?
It depends on the complexity of the formula. Reverse engineering can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks. Most products take approximately 2 weeks to reverse engineer.
How long can formulation work take?
This again depends on the complexity of the product. The biggest problems addressed with formulation are stability and performance related. Some products such as bleach-based cleaners, powders, and simple soaps take 3-5 lab hours to complete and others such as car polishes can take 10-15 lab hours to complete. It is hard to say exactly how long formulation will take as all products are different. Contact us with your project details and we can attempt to give a more personalized quote based on your project.
What happens after I receive my formula?
After we send you a formula, we will produce and send a small sample to you for testing, or we will complete testing on your behalf if necessary. We then will receive your feedback on the initial formula and adjust the performance or composition accordingly. We will then repeat this process as many times as necessary to perfect your product.
Will Mid South Labs aid in the production process for my product?
Yes, we do not blend chemicals, but we are dedicated and excited to help you with product development from beginning to end. This includes working directly with blenders when issues arise, compiling regulatory information, and creating SDSs when requested. We want you to be fully equipped to handle these potential problems in an informed and efficient way.
